The Republican Party spent over $150,000 on clothing, make-up accessories for vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family, according to the party's financial records. The campaign did however say the clothes will be auctioned off after the Nov. 4 election. The money has been spent by the Republican National Committee on the candidate since late August when Presidential nominee John McCain elected the Alaskan governor to share the GOP ticket.
Shopping trips to Saks Fifth Avenue in New York and St. Louis totaled $49,425.74. Hair and makeup costs for Palin through September were $4,716.49.
The McCain campaign responded on Wednesday by saying the new clothes purchased for her and some family members are headed to charities.
"It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign," said Tracey Schmitt of John McCain's campaign, according to the LA Times.
"With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it's remarkable that we're spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses," Schmitt added.
