The global financial crisis could mean big bucks for Twentieth Century Fox.
The Hollywood Studio, owned by Aussie media magnate Rupert Murdoch, is pressing ahead with plans for a sequel to the 1980's movie Wall Street in which Michael Douglas played ruthless financier Gordon Gecko with the infamous credo "Greed is Good."
According to Variety magazine, Allan Loeb, who wrote the film 21, has been lined up to pen the screenplay, which will be rushed into production. The studio hopes that Douglas will reprise his role as Gecko, for which he won an Oscar in 1987.
The sequel, to be called Money Never Sleeps, will centre on Gekko as he emerges from prison after serving his sentence for financial crimes, only to discover that the financial world is even more tumultuous than the one he once ruled over.
Edward Pressman, who produced the 1987 Oliver Stone-helmed film, is aboard to produce, but there is no word on whether Stone will also join the project.
